Welcome to 3rd Grade
My name is Mrs. Holcomb. I will be your child's third grade teacher. This website will be an easy way for you as a parent to stay current with what is going on in our classroom throughout the year weather you are near or far. I will post our weekly newsletter, important class and school events, notices and pictures and videos from our classroom adventures. This will be the first year I have used a website so have some patience with me as I may not always get everything right the first time. In addition to me being able to keep you informed you will be able to send me notes as well. This website and email are going to be the best ways to get in touch with me. I may not be able to get to a phone until after school to return calls. Newsletters will be posted by Monday afternoon and graded papers will usually go home then as well. If I send them home earlier I will post a notice on the website.
Let me tell you a little more about myself. I have been teaching for 13 years. I graduated from Elon University in North Carolina. I am a proud army wife and mother of one precocious little boy. Our family has been to 4 duty stations including Bamberg. I understand first hand the difficulties and rewards of the army life. I believe my job as a teacher is not only to educate but to instill a love for learning that will last a lifetime. I use a Montessori approach to teaching. Our day starts off with a Morning Meeting where students greet each other, go over the itinerary for the day and connect their learning to new concepts. The rest of the time with me will be spent in cooperative groups, in self discovery, and small group instruction. Before the students have finished we will meet again to reflect on our learning. I believe creating this kind of classroom community helps build strong bonds between the children that allows them to grow not only academically but socially and emotionally as well.
